The global peace index analyses the state of peace around the world as an attempt to measure the relative position of nations peacefulness. It was launched in 2007 and updated yearly. The global peace index (gpi) ranks countries based on factors like levels of violence, conflict, incarceration rates, and access to weapons.

Findings of the 2024 gpi indicate a 6 per cent deterioration in the global level of peace over the preceding 16 years and a growing inequality in peace between the most and least peaceful countries. The values are presented in tables and charts with calculations of changes and shares, and with extensive analytical functionality. The 2024 gpi finds that the world became less peaceful for the 12th time in the last 16 years, with the average level of country peacefulness deteriorating by 0. 56 per cent over the prior year.
